On top of the Navajo sandstone plateau both Antelope canyons can be recognized by small slots in the bedrock only. Warm season flash flood events of the Antelope creeks needed millions of years to create these hidden sandstone beauties. The erosion caused by the flowing water was strongest in surface flaws of the plateau. Over the years these flaws slowly eroded to slots that widened to deep slot canyons. The admiration of the unbelievable beauty within both Antelope canyons is always mixed with a fear of being struck by an unpredicted flash flood event. This causes this extraordinary deep experience of nature.
